The How-to Guide for Pull ups (Guest Video) by @leanmusclematt

Pull-ups are one of those exercises that everyone wants to do but few can. Why? Because pull-ups require a lot of upper-body strength and are best worked up to using small steps. So I was excited when my friend and fellow fitoholic Lean Muscle Matt created this how-to video on how to rock them. Check out his tips – and let me know how you’re doing!

Matt is a Certified Public Accountant and blogging fitness freak. After starting his fitness journey on September 1, 2010, he lost 4% body fat and gained 15 pounds of muscle in the first year. He believes that small constant changes and strength training are keys to achieving fitness goals. You can read more atΒ FitDeskJockey.comΒ or find him on TwitterΒ @leanmusclematt.

  1. I did these when I was younger & then a couple years a go I decided I wanted to again. My back responds so fast that I got so wide “getting there” that I backed off. Even with age, the back still grows. Other body parts are harder to maintain but my back LOVES weights! πŸ˜‰ I got 3-4 out before I decided to just go back to my weights & no pull-ups or chin ups although I still try every now & then. πŸ™‚

    Great video!

  2. Thank you Jody!

I certainly wasn’t a fan of back workouts at first, but they’ve quickly become one of my favorites, in part because they are challenging for me. It sure is a great feeling though!

I think pull ups sort of have their own underground cult following. It always makes me smile to see someone at the gym cranking a bunch out. πŸ™‚

I think it’s fair to say that many people, including many gym goers, have an underdeveloped back. It’s no wonder why so many people have back issues.

    Best wishes,

  5. Thanks Mary. I’m glad that you found value in the tips!
The whole movement of the pull up definitely takes some getting used to, but it’s amazing how much progress you can make if you stick with it.

Hop on up on the wagon! πŸ™‚

  8. If pull-ups are the new bench press, then I’m in luck because my trainer had me doing them this morning…even though my sluggish, still on UK-time zone body was really tired and crabby during the process. Clever video! πŸ™‚
