I’ll be honest – it’s like pulling teeth for me to blog lately. But I’m totally inspired by a groovy new alternative – video! (I know, I know… I’m a little late to the party. Ha)
Last week I started two new video features that let me share my message and content with you in a mo’ fun, interactive way. Ready for em?
Live Broadcasts on Periscope
I noticed a lot of interest when I tweeted this recently:
In the last 2 weeks I’ve lost 1% body fat and gained 1/2 lb in lean muscle mass. Recomposition is underway – I’ll explain how on da blog!

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsI started thinking… why not show my enthusiasm about this subject and interact with my followers too? So I decided to discuss it on Periscope.
Periscope is a new app that allows users to broadcast and live stream video from their phone anywhere. My first broadcast was titled, 5 Power Tips for Building Muscle and Losing Fat – At the Same Time! It was huge fun to see viewers’ enthusiasm about this subject and do a quick and dirty overview.
I’m already pumped for my next scope! I’ll be broadcasting most Thursdays at 11:30 a.m. PST/2:30 p.m EST on topics relating to muscle building, owning it in the weight room, and clean eating. Follow me to be notified of impromptu scopes as well!
How to Use Periscope!
It’s important to know that you can only replay broadcasts for up to 24 hours. Then, poof – they’re gone. So it’s only useful to either join live or replay quickly.
- Download the free app on your phone.
- Search for and follow your favorite social media peeps (I’m @workoutnirvana).
- Turn on notifications to get a message when those you follow are broadcasting live.
While a broadcast is happening you can (1) type messages into the text box at the bottom (the broadcaster will see and perhaps respond to them), (2) show how much you love their content by tapping your screen to give ‘hearts’ (kind of like ‘liking’ on Facebook), and (3) share with your friends by scrolling up or left-to-right (depending on your phone) and hitting the ‘share’ button.
A shout out to Tamara over at fitknitchick.com for boiling down these instructions so succinctly! Incidentally, Tamara has great scopes too – she’s @fitknitchick_1.
After the broadcast, head on over to my SCOPES page to see related links and content.
Again, it’s just more fun for me to talk on video right now, thus my weekly Motivation Minute feature. Plus I think it’s long overdue.
So each Friday I’ll post a 60-second video on my Facebook page to motivate you and share my insights.
I suppose I’m also inspired by video right now because I miss interacting with group clients on a weekly basis. I’ve delayed starting another online coaching group while I’ve healed and recovered from my preventative double mastectomy last spring (I still coach 1:1 and training-only clients – check it out HERE). In good time I’ll be creating more stuff to help you rock your muscle-building and fat-loss goals. In the meantime, I’m still here as your weightlifting mentor, clean eating coach, and biggest supporter.
